Pattern of Guessing...

You know the saying; “old habits die hard?”
The same is true for learning how to read.
When children develop patterns of guessing…
They believe reading is guessing.
When children rely on pictures to figure out the words…
They begin to develop habits that may help them get by in K, 1, 2 but by 3rd grade, the strategy of relying on pictures no longer works.
And THIS is a huge problem.
This is why 83% of children who are not caught up to grade level with reading by 3rd grade continue to fall below grade level in subsequent years.
Foundations - are everything!
And beginning your child's reading journey with a strong foundation could be the difference between a lifelong love of reading and a lifelong struggle.
It is essential that we teach our children how to decode words AND provide them with texts (books) that are designed developmentally for where they are at.
For those of you who have children currently enrolled in my program, you've heard me rave about the new books I've discovered.
After searching high and low for years to find sets of books that are 100% decodable, I finally found them!
Decodable books; meaning children can sound out every word based on phonetic patterns they have learned, are what's going to help your child build momentum and confidence.
It's crazy to me that they are so hard to find!
Finally, a teacher, made her own.
Decodable Adventures they are called! And we have been loving them! Within a few weeks, children's confidence has started to grow as well as an “I can actually read every word!” attitude. And that feeling - is priceless!
No more guessing.
No more looking at pictures.
Just letters on the page, sound by sound - reading!
…that magical moment when Kindergarteners discover they can in fact read 4 letter words - it's so fun to watch!
What a gift to these budding readers!
If you have a children learning to read and you wish you had books at home they could read every word without frustration - these are the best!
They come in both fiction and non-fiction sets for each phonetic pattern.
And the non-fiction, in particular have been a BIG HIT!
Children LOVE learning about their world!
Someday I hope bookstores and publishing companies will work together to get books in the hands of beginning readers they can actually read - but until then, check out these sets from Decodable Adventures.
