“HOW?" she excitedly yelled as she continued to read word after word with a huge smile on her face!
“Jump”!
"Wish"!
“Frog”!
Not just the “passwords" or snap words from class - but BIG words!
4 letter words!
“I can't believe it!”
"How?" she just kept saying every word she read.
“How?”
“This is amazing! I've never done this before! I have to tell my brother and sisters! They'll be so proud of me!”
I honestly almost cried.
It wasn't just that she was reading words.
It was how proud she was of herself in the reading.
It felt like magic!
All of a sudden - all the tiny pieces coming together.
“You have been working so hard!” I told her.
“Every day, letter by letter, sound by sound. You never gave up!"
“You are a sound master! And now you can read SO MANY words!”
After 3 months of 2x/week consistent repetition - the results were undeniable.
One letter at a time.
One sound at a time.
One word at a time.
Until…seemingly suddenly…as if by magic, each word just tumbled out after the next!
I can feel the transformation the Next Step children go through as it happens.
I can feel the growth.
I can feel the progress.
I can sense the shift in skill and energy simultaneously.
And the best days…are the days when the kids not only see the growth, but feel it for themselves too!
Days like this - when a precious 5 year old who the day before couldn't read - and now - she can!
Happy reading!
Ms. Schelzi
