Testimonial: He Hugged Me!

He threw his arms around my waist and hugged me saying, “I wish I could come to learn to read with you every day!”

And he meant it with a HUGE smile on his face.

I almost cried.

And - I get it.

If you told me that last week, during the beginning of summer break, more than one 6 year old boy would be asking to work with a reading teacher more than 2x/week I would have smiled.

I know exactly why!

All year (possibly for more than just one year) so many children struggle to learn to read. Whether it's spoken about or not, the nervousness builds throughout the day and the year.

Children have a sixth sense! They are so socially attuned. They know when others are moving beyond where they are at.

Children want confidence!

They desire to fit in and keep up!

And more importantly, they want to feel good about themselves!

So, yes, of course I understand why, even though it's summer break children love coming to Next Step - they are getting to feel seen

They are getting the 1:1 focused attention they need.

They are seeing learning to read as fun!

They are feeling their skills grow with consistency!

They are feeling like maybe I can do it too!

It's really cool to see children fall in love with learning to read the same way I have fallen in love with teaching children how to learn to read.

Summer learning is not forever.

It's not gonna be every summer.

And if your child is at the point, as a K/1st/2nd grader where they have worked so hard all year to build a strong foundation, to make mountains of progress, this is the summer to keep the momentum going!!

I would encourage you to consider giving your child the opportunity to have a new experience for themself next school year…giving your child the opportunity to feel like it's easy to transition back to school!

It doesn't have to be hard!

It gets to be easy!

When you put in the work - when you commit to growth, when you believe in the transformational power of a solid foundation, a new experience is possible!
